Seventeen students on Martha's Vineyard are headed to college thanks to more than $2 million in scholarships awarded at the island's annual Class Night celebration last week, the Martha's Vineyard Times reports.
According to the Cape Cod Times, more than $1.1 million in college scholarships and workforce tuition were awarded at the event, which was held at the Tabernacle in Oak Bluffs.Awards ranged from large to small and represented organizations and individuals from every corner of the Island, from MV Youth, to the garden club, striped bass derby, African American Heritage Trail, fire and police, and local elementary schools.
"Especially poignant each year are the memorial scholarships, of which there were far too many new ones this year," the Times notes.
Among the winners: Connor Graves, Nikeya Tankard, Fernanda Rosa, Tehya Backus, and Jack Tully.
